Blackburn and Blackpool see biggest increases as Lancashire records another 86 new Covid cases

A total of 126,216 cases have now been recorded across Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Hyndburn, Chorley, Lancaster, Preston, Burnley, Wyre, South Ribble, Pendle, Rossendale, Ribble Valley, Fylde and West Lancs

Lancashire has recorded a further 86 coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour period.

Blackburn with Darwen accounted for nearly a quarter of these as the borough continues its recent trend of registering the biggest daily increase of positive tests in the county.

Another 21 people have contracted the virus since yesterday bringing its total to 18,395 since the start of the pandemic.

Blackpool was the only other Lancashire borough to see a double-digit rise in new cases while 11 other areas recorded smaller amounts.

A recording error by Public Health England means Ribble Valley’s tally has dropped by one.

Tonight’s figures from PHE England were delays due to recording problems in Scotland.

Lancashire has now recorded a total of 126,216 cases since the start of the pandemic. It is important to note that most of these are no longer active infections.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 2,474 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,439,691.

A further 20 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 127,629.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 152,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Government data up to May 10 shows that of the 53,675,733 jabs given in the UK so far, 35,587,348 were first doses – a rise of 115,053 on the previous day.

Some 18,088,385 were second doses, an increase of 231,835.
