Guests at a Blackpool hotel claim they left in the early hours of the morning after hearing strange noises coming from the corridor.

The Norbreck Castle Hotel has been slammed on TripAdvisor after a guest named ‘Harry S’ claimed it was the worst hotel they had ever stayed in.

Dubbing it ‘HMP Norbreck Castle’, Harry claimed that during a July trip to the Britannia-owned hotel, there were groups of children ‘smashing things, knocking on doors and screaming’ at 2am.

According to the disgruntled guest, the group was woken ‘every five minutes’, leading them to complain to staff only for nothing for be done.

Nobody from the hotel was available to comment on the issues.

The review says: “I’ve stayed in some horrific hotels abroad and this hotel beats the lot of them. Requested a refund at 2am and driving home, that’s how bad it was.

“We arrived to the hotel so (sic) find an ‘event’ on in the lobby, we had to queue an hour to check in.

“Save your money from visiting Blackpool Zoo as the characters you’ll see walking around this hotel top any animal.

“We was (sic) woken EVERY five minutes with groups of children smashing things, knocking on doors and screaming, this is at 2am.

“As the room itself was an absolute dive, we had enough, we was told security would sort it, as nothing was done, we requested to move rooms, as they was full the only option was a refund.”

Harry said that the group then faced a two-hour drive home at 2am, adding ‘this place makes HMP Belmarsh look like the ritz.”

This review follows another from the same month where the guests claim to have checked out ‘within an hour’ of checking in.

According to ‘Katy A’, a family holiday was cut four days short after the group left the Norbreck Castle, facing a four-hour drive home.

The TripAdvisor reviewer, who also stayed in July, claimed that her child found scissors in the room and that certain areas were ‘thick with dirt’.

They wrote: “Booked two hotel rooms they couldn’t have been further from each other so we went to the family room on the fifth floor. Passing dancers practicing in the hall ways stair way you name it they were there. Litter on windowsills class doors broken and indicated with tape.

“Arrived at the room I would say on first arrival the room furniture looked like it had been bought At a charity shop. Scratched bed wasn’t put together properly. Bunk beds made from wood but the cheapest you could think off. But we decided it’s our holiday we have just travelled three hours from Edinburgh it will be fine let’s have a brew.

“Picked up the first cup dirty second one dirty. Tray they were lying on dirty. That’s when we noticed more. Dirty round the radiator. The toilet bowl rim clearly hadn’t been cleaned the thick dirty on the windows.”

Katy claims that stains were found also found on the duvet and that there was ‘chewing gum embedded in the carpet’.

According to the review, there were also a pair of nail scissors found on the floor.

The group reportedly opted to take a refund and leave the hotel just an hour after originally checking in, resulting in their holiday being cut four days short.

“We couldn’t find a hotel and by this time my kids age 7 9 and 23 all agreed going home and driving the 4 hours there would be a better option” added Katy.

“So we got a refund packed up the car and drove home having to go back to Manchester first to drop my eldest back home. We were 4 hours away from home and got in at 2am cutting our holiday short by 4 days meaning our last hotel was a waste of money also.

“Yes the staff were nice but that didn’t make up for the state of the hotel and the room. The other room we booked we made a quick stop still dated but I didn’t inspect anything in that one I have never felt so dirty from being in a hotel for less than an hour.”

Britannia Hotels has been contacted for comment.
