Line of Duty actor Craig Parkinson has swapped the country’s most popular cop drama with a starring role in a new music video.

The Blackpool-born actor, who played DI Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan in Jed Mercurio’s hit BBC show before the character was killed off, appears in Manchester band The Slow Readers Club’s Tell No Lies promo.

The unlikely collaboration is the result of a chance meeting between frontman Aaron Starkie and Craig, who was chatting to BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins and The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess at Kendall Calling festival in Cumbria.

Aaron said: “It was one of those weird things where you feel like you’ve met before, I think Chris saw me trying to figure it out and then pointed out that I would know him [Craig] from Line of Duty.

“We since got chatting on Twitter and he let us know that he was a fan of the band and kindly offered to be in the video. He’s a top bloke, so generous with his time and brought great energy to the shoot”.

In the video, Craig plays an energetic faith healer who encounters a challenging and sceptical Aaron.

The band are set to head down the M66 to play the King George’s Hall in Blackburn on Sunday, 26 September, as part of their headline tour.
