A Blackpool hotel owner has hit back at claims they refused to give out teabags to a guest who stayed at the hotel earlier this year.

Peek-a-Booze is owned by Cybil DuVaux and has previously been seen to have hit back at a guest who left a low-rated review after being told to wait ‘six minutes’ whilst waiting to be seated this summer

The hotel is rated ‘very good’ on TripAdvisor as out of 258 reviews, 158 of them rate the cabaret hotel as ‘excellent’.

The venue is described as ‘Blackpool’s leading cabaret bar and hotel with a mixed clientele welcoming the LGBT community and live shows four nights a week’.

In July this year, a user by the name of mandiej74, left a one-star review of Peek-a-Booze branding the stay as ‘shocking’.

User mandiej74 said she arrived at the hotel for a two night stay. She described the room as ‘very small’ and said it ‘smelt of cigarette smoke’ and had a leaking toilet. She had a cup of tea and then went for a look around Blackpool.

She wrote: “Returned around 9 pm to get ready and go down to the bar. Asked for more teabags for the morning to be rudely told “there’s a shop on the corner, if you want tea bags go and buy them, for what you have paid what do you expect. I’m not the manager, I’m the owner””

Mandiej74 explained: “Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate it was cheap and businesses have been struggling but the rudeness and attitude of the ‘owner’ was appalling.

“For the amount of money we would have put over the bar, he lost a lot of money for the cost of a couple of tea bags and we will not return.”

She said that ‘judging by other reviews’ she expected a ‘clever comeback’ from the owner due to her experience, but insists she is ‘just stating the facts of what happened.’

Following the ‘incident’, mandiej4 said that her and her friends did not continue their stay at Peek-a-Booze and found ‘much better’ accommodation elsewhere.

She said: “Good luck for the future Mr Owner.”

The owner, Miss Cybil DuVaux, hosts the ground floor cabaret bar with karaoke, live acts and drag artists every week.

They offer two floors of accommodation above the entertainment on a ‘room only basis’ from £25 per night.

Cybil DuVaux, owner of the Peek a Booze Hotel, responded to the ‘shocking’ review in August.

They said: “I will of course apologize if the toilet in your room was leaking, I’m assuming this was sorted out for you as you don’t mention it again.

“Tea bags, yes there’s a big sign in the room that says we offer arrival day sundries only and do not top them up. Do we tell people to go to the corner shop when they start moaning about more tea bags because they haven’t read the sign in the room, yes.

“Do we get a little testy with people when they wine (sic) about free tea bags when we are fighting to survive after a year of lockdown, yes.

“Do we advertise all our rooms as smoking rooms, yes. That gives people the option to choose to book a low cost, budget hotel that allows smoking. You booked it and didn’t like it. Lesson learnt.”

Miss DuVaux added: “Make sure you read all the online information before you book, it’s all there for you to make an informed choice.
