Blackpool Victoria Hospital is urging parents to think before attending A&E for non-emergency treatment.

Trust bosses issued a statement on social media this evening (November 2) saying they are ‘extremely busy’.

Residents are being asked to stop and think whether they need to come to A&E, or if they could visit their GP or dial 111 instead.

The tweet read: “We are seeing a high volume of attendances in our #Blackpool A&E department

“If your condition in NOT an emergency, please consider alternative services such as visiting NHS 111 online

“Thank you for your support to #HelpUsHelpYou.”

It comes four days after Blackpool Teaching Hospitals declared a ‘critical incident’ due to high numbers of patients.

Members of the public with non life-threatening illnesses were urged to avoid their hospitals to help ease pressure on the service, particularly Emergency Care.

The trust covers Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Clifton Hospital and Fleetwood Hospital.
