Excitement is building on the Fylde coast after a private jet landed in Blackpool just as filming began for new Disney+ series Star Wars: Andor.

The jet, a Bombardier Global 6000, landed at Blackpool Airport at 9.35am on Sunday (May 2) having set off from Barbados in the Caribbean some 7 hours and 44 minutes earlier.

The jet remained grounded in Blackpool for the day, setting off for Vienna in Austria late on Sunday before landing at 12.17am on Monday.

Exactly who was on board the plane remains unknown, but a buzz is building in the seaside resort that its passengers are somehow related to the new Star Wars show.

Stars of the show include Rogue One’s Diego Luna and Hollywood heavyweight Stellan Skarsgard, who has starred in the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean, the Avengers Cinematic Universe, and Mamma Mia.

But Star Wars fans might be slightly disappointed, with local photographer Paul Webster telling the Lancashire Post the passengers had “nothing to do” with the franchise.

Filming for Andor began the day before the plane landed in town, with drone pilot and YouTuber Scruffy Diamond capturing a set being set up on Cleveleys coast.

Cafe Cove, on the prom in Cleveleys, has taken on a Sci-Fi lick of paint for the new show.

Scruffy Diamond, real name Craig Newman, captured great aerial footage of the set coming together.

He said: “More trucks have been arriving and dropping off new set pieces including some really cool giant palm trees which I presume are going to be placed either around the Cove Cafe or placed along the prom when shooting other scenes, or maybe both.

“My best guess at this point as to what the Cove Cafe set is going to be is, some kind of market or a village maybe?

“I wonder why they haven’t brought the other circular set pieces over the road yet, maybe they are not all needed in the Cove Cafe scene or maybe they will come over tomorrow.”
