“It was dirty. The cups were dirty, the toilet roll was half used and had poop on it. I felt it wasn’t clean or hygienic.”
A hotel in Blackpool has come under fire after a series of damning reviews from guests – including allegations of faeces on an unused toilet roll.
One woman, Michelle Emmerson, said her experience staying at Garvey’s Promenade Hotel was ruined by apparent stained floors, stained mugs, smells and what she said was poo marks on an unused toilet roll.
Michelle and her husband decided a well deserved break was needed after a hard year that saw their child in hospital since May.
Having looked at the hotel website, the couple decided that Garvey’s seemed like a good spot to book for two nights while they enjoyed their time in the seaside town.
The pair booked themselves in for two nights from August 31 for £89. But after enjoying their day out they said they were left shocked after checking in.
Michelle said: “It’s been a stressful year so we wanted a couple of days break away but I felt so upset when we entered the reception area.
“When I entered I was taken aback by the smell. It was unwelcoming and the reception area itself was gloomy.
“We were devastated when we entered the hotel. We spent all day and night out and only went in late to go to bed and we were up early to get out.”
After checking in, with concern etched on their minds, the couple went to their room only to find conditions that worried them carried on upstairs.
Michelle says the only word she could describe the overall feel of the room was ‘dirty’.
“It was dirty. The cups were dirty, the toilet roll was half used and had poop on it. I felt it wasn’t clean or hygienic,” She said.
“The stairs were covered in food, the spindles covered in dust, carpets throughout were scruffy.”
Michelle and her husband decided that having paid nearly £90 for their stay, they would make do with that they had despite feeling disappointed.
Garvey’s has been given a 3.5 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor with 97 ‘terrible’ reviews left from various guests. It also has 118 ‘excellent’ reviews.
The most recent reviews give the location a ‘terrible’ rating, with one guest saying: “The horror walking up the stairs on the dirty carpets to our rooms. We were shocked as we opened the door, the smell was appalling.”
A spokesperson for Garvey’s told LancsLive it was aware of ‘some poor experiences’ with complaints ‘currently in hand’.
They also said management was changing at the hotel with actions in place to ‘rectify some issues’.
A full refurbishment is also taking place in the winter.
They said: “We are aware that some of our guests had a poor experience at the hotel and these complaints are currently in hand, each on a case by case basis.
“The hotel is undergoing a change of management and feedback has taken onboard and actions taken to rectify some of the issues they have raised.
“Nobody is perfect, we try our best to deliver a comfortable stay and quality customer service. The hotel will undertake a full refurbishment over the winter season.”
