Antonia knew something had to change after a seat belt wouldn’t fasten around her at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and she was turned away from two rides

A woman has lost seven stone after she was turned away from two roller coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Antonia Mulvaney, 28, struggled with her weight from a young age and as she got older, lost control of her diet, which led her to weighing over 20 stone, LiverpoolEcho reports.

Antonia, from Whiston, said her diet had mainly consisted of takeaways and convenience foods before she realised something had to change.

Antonia was turned away from The Big One and Revolution roller coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach before she decided to lose weight.

Recalling the experience, she told The Echo: “They’ve got these tiny little entrance ways to get into the rides. I was struggling to go through the turnstiles and then basically, when I got to the ride the bar came down but I’ve got a seat belt and basically, the seat belt didn’t go anywhere near me.

“They come down and check to make sure everyone is strapped in and I hadn’t even noticed the seat belt at first, I just got in and pulled the bar down.

“It was the most humiliating experience of my life. I wanted the ground to open and swallow me up.

“I tried to go on another ride and the same thing happened – I couldn’t go on that.”

Antonia said: “It was sort of the first real time that my weight had stopped me doing something, it had stopped me going on these rides that I wanted to go on.

“I’d never been to Blackpool before, I always wanted to go and the time I went I couldn’t go on any of the rides, so I was just like ‘no I can’t go on like this.’

“I went to the doctor and they told me I was pre-diabetic. That was also another motivation for going back to Slimming World.”

Antonia had previously been a member of Slimming World and had made the decision to try and follow the plan independently.

When this proved unsuccessful, she returned to a Slimming World group in Huyton where her friend was also a member.

In the space of six months, Antonia has lost seven stone and dropped six dress sizes.

She now weighs 13st 3lbs and wears size 12-14 in clothes.

Antonia said: “I’m really proud of myself and happy because people who haven’t seen me for ages notice and they’re like ‘oh my, don’t you look well, haven’t you lost weight’ – and honestly, that’s better than any takeaway could ever taste.

“The way I dress has completely changed as well. I’ve gone from wearing leggings and really big baggy t-shirts to dresses and skirts and stuff like that.

“My wardrobe has completely changed because of how I feel in myself.

“I cook all my own food now. I don’t think I’ve bought something ready done – unless it’s a Slimming World ready meal – in I don’t knows how long.”

Antonia added: “I’d say for anyone who’s wanting to join, who’s a bit nervous, to take the plunge because everyone is in the same boat there.

“Everyone has their ups and downs with it and everyone has their good weeks and bad weeks and if it is a gain everyone will support you.

“They will give you ideas maybe of how you can jig up your weekly menu and give you recipe ideas. When you do have a bad week there’s always that support in group.”
